Water Brewing Temps

Hello coffee lovers,

In this week's edition of SCT Brew News, we want to discuss the hot topic of water brewing temperatures.

According to the Specialty Coffee Association, the ideal water temperature for brewing coffee is between 195 and 205 degrees Fahrenheit. It’s a delicate balance. When water is too hot, it can extract too much from the coffee beans, making your brew taste like burnt rubber. And when water is too cold, it can't extract enough, resulting in a watery cup that's so weak it won’t lift your eyelids.

A thermometer is great, but a solid hack for pour-overs is waiting 30 seconds after the water boils before hitting your grounds with water.

If you have any hot takes on the subject, we’d love to hear from you!

Happy brewing!
